How do you make it?

Start by adding a clear spirit, such as vodka or dry gin. Make sure the spirit contains at least 30% alcohol. Do not use whisky, as this will have little effect. Write down the bottling date and the type of spirit you used on the label. If you can, try making use of any leftover spirits you already have at home.
Once filled, let your bottle mature in a cool, dark place. The wood chips will gradually release their smoky whisky flavour and warm colour. Feel free to taste it every now and then to discover how the flavour develops. The process usually takes around eight weeks, but you can experiment by leaving it to mature for longer.
After eight weeks, your homemade whisky-style drink is ready to enjoy. Filter it, or pour carefully, to make sure no wood chips end up in your glass. And remember – never eat the wood chips.
